THE ROLE


The Senior Designer provides support to the Creative & Design Manager in the creative execution of seasonal collections from concept to completion, emulating the creative vision of SPELL’s aesthetic. This position is offered as a permanent part-time role and will be based at our Head Quarters in Byron Bay.

 


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Support the Creative & Design Manager and Creative Director to identify and develop seasonal collections
  • Explore the inspiration for each collection alongside the Creative Director
  • Assist with print briefs as required
  • Manage the process of creating a balanced range, designing and developing key seasonal shapes, trends and items across categories
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across departments including Design, Creative, Technical and Sales management teams
  • Support the business strategy of developing ranges that align with both Northern and Southern Hemisphere
  • Manage direct reports offering support and guidance
  • Management of Design calendar deadlines
  • Offer clear direction at technical handover to enable development team to interpret design aesthetic with accuracy
  • Maintain the Spell aesthetic whilst moving the brand forward with fresh inspiring ideas
  • Constant monitoring of sales reports to lead direction of each range
  • Ability to use hand & CAD to produce illustrations and technical drawings
  • Attend fittings and collaborate with other designers and technical team
  • Dynamically contribute to forecasting, seasonally & monthly
  • International travel to factories and for inspiration trips as required
  • Lead, develop, and inspire design team
  • Deliver results within budget expectations and understand financial impact of decisions
  • Achieve Sustainability goals within the Design Department
  • Attend campaign and look book shoots when required
  • Assist in direction for campaign shoots as needed

 

ABOUT YOU


You will have a positive attitude and the ability to be creatively innovative with design concepts and ideas.

 

ESSENTIAL

  • A minimum of 5 years within a design team
  • Advanced knowledge of garment construction, including fit and finishes
  • The ability to visualise from swatch to body
  • Good interpersonal skills to communicate and build relationships at all levels
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Strong knowledge of yarns, fabrics and trims
  • Advanced skills with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
  • Excellent technical drawing ability
  • Strong management skills and the ability to inspire a team.

DESIRABLE

  • Tertiary qualification in Textile Design
  • Strong interest in art and culture
  • Willing and able to travel domestically and internationally as needed
  • Able to use logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions
